North Korean Women’s Football Club to Compete in South Korea Tournament

(MENAFN) A North Korean women’s football club is set to travel to South Korea later this month to take part in a regional tournament, marking a rare sporting exchange between the two countries, according to reports.

The Korea Football Association says Naegohyang Women’s FC will compete in Suwon, south of Seoul, where they are scheduled to face Suwon FC Women in the semifinals of the AFC Women’s Champions League on May 20.

The team, made up of 27 players and 12 staff members, is expected to arrive at Incheon International Airport via Beijing on May 17, according to reports.

The final of the competition is set for May 23 in Suwon.

Naegohyang previously defeats Suwon FC Women 3–0 during a group-stage match held in Myanmar in November.

The report highlights that sporting exchanges between North and South Korea remain rare but have occurred in limited cases in the past, including women’s football participation in regional competitions and appearances at major multi-sport events.
