Chinese President Xi Sends Congratulations to North Korea’s Kim
Xi, who also holds the position of general secretary of the Communist Party of China, expressed his readiness to cooperate with Kim to “write a new chapter” in China–North Korea relations, according to reports from Beijing-based media.
Kim secured his reelection at the ninth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea held in Pyongyang on Sunday.
In North Korea, the ruling party, rather than the state presidency, represents the country’s highest authority. The general secretary of the party holds the top position and is effectively the nation’s most powerful official.
