Seoul, Kyiv Commit to Resolving Fate of Captured North Korean Soldiers
The matter was discussed by South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha during talks on Friday, held on the sidelines of a Group of Seven meeting in France, according to reports from Seoul.
The two North Korean soldiers were captured by Ukrainian forces in January of last year while fighting alongside Russian troops.
Seoul has indicated its willingness to accept the prisoners in coordination with Ukraine, as they reportedly wish to go to South Korea rather than return home.
Earlier this month, Cho told parliament that Ukraine had assured South Korea the prisoners would not be sent back to Russia, addressing concerns they could otherwise be transferred to North Korea against their will.
